Geeks in the burbs

It’s been one of those weeks at work. If you don’t know how to hear this in your head, shame.

woke up quick, new oatmeal cartoon
jus’ thought that i had to get to starbucks soon
i gotta get wired before the day begins
before my wife starts bitchin about fb friends
about to code but damn near went blind
cuz i got rickrolled for the 45th time
closed that tab, tried to get a grip
i think my kung-fu’s starting to slip
bailed to a prompt, my secret weapon
need to use vi and do some grep’n
jumped out of the shell hit the pic in the dock
i got needs for speed, i’m on the clock
then i let the IDE play
coding new shit in In-tell-i-J
it was groovy groovy at the top of the list
then i wrote my own shit and it went somethin’ like this
coding is more leet in JUnit fo’
passin the tests, slapping the codes
went to Jasmine to get the scoop
it all worked in chrome, but IE is poop
a tweet shows up, who can it be
a wizard ass coder named Kotek B
he opened up the window cuz he wanted to say
its all about coffescript and eee ex tay

coz the geeks in the burbs are always hard
you come coding that trash, we’ll pull ya card
owin’ all of my life to the byte and the bit
dont quote me boy – just clone my git

down in Jira is where I get my pace
don’t make me use ora for a database
but mysql is a friend of mine
but it’ll be in version 5 till the end of time
chased bugs down cuz some code was loose
you skip writin’ tests you tie your own noose

coz the geeks in the burbs are always hard
you come coding that trash, we’ll pull ya card
owin’ all of my life to the byte and the bit
dont quote me boy – just clone my git

Joe Rinehart's been developing software for Web, mobile, and desktop since 1998. While he mainly now works in Java, Grails, and HTML5, he has a long history of community involvement in the Flash, Flex, and ColdFusion space. As a published author and award-winning speaker, he's bringing his skills to CompileDammit to help users new to Grails and Java. When he's not coding, he's either spending time with his family or feeding an appetite for endurance mountain bike racing. (8/9/2012 update: He's now either spending time with his family or getting over a huge knee injury caused by endurance mountain bike racing.)

Heh – woke up at 5a, started working, and had some idle time between 2:30 and 3:30 meetings. Brain was too far gone to be productive.

  1. Marc Esher says:

Oh my Lord. That is fantastic!

  2. Tim says:

A YouTube video of this is required. It must be made!

  3. Dan Vega says:

This is flat out amazing! I second Tim’s request, nice job Joe.
